Osteoarthritis Symptoms

The symptoms of Osteoarthritis often develop slowly and worsen over time. If you have experience for any of the following, then immediate medical attention will be required
  • Pain in your joint during or after movement.
  • Tenderness in your joints when you apply light pressure to it.
  • Stiffness when you wake up in the morning or after a period of inactivity.
  • Loss of flexibility to move your joint through its full range of motion.
  • Grating sensation could be experienced when you use the joint.
  • Bone spurs, the extra bits of bone, which feel like hard lumps, may form around the damaged joint.

Osteoarthritis Causes

Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones in your joints gently deteriorates. Cartilage is a firm; slippery tissue that allows nearly frictionless joint motion. In osteoarthritis, the slick surface of the cartilage becomes rough. Eventually, if the cartilage wears down completely, you may be left with bone rubbing on bone. The general factors responsible for Osteoarthritis are hereditary, obesity and injury related or overuse of joints.

Osteoarthritis Treatment

The doctor will closely examine your affected joint, checking for tenderness, swelling or redness, and for range of motion in the joint. Your doctor may also recommend X- rays and MRI's and lab tests for blood and joint fluid analysis.
Osteoarthritis pain may be helped by certain medications. Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, Tai-chi and yoga are some of the common treatments for Osteoarthritis.

However, if conservative treatments don't help, you may want to consider surgical procedures such as, Cortisone injections, Lubrication injections, Re-aligning bones and Joint replacement, Ozone Therapy, Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation also known as Tens, Radiofrequency Ablation also known as RFA followed by Physical Exercises.
